Fireside Fun - A Good Old-Fashioned Campfire Circle

There's nothing quite as relaxing as sitting around a campfire, roasting marshmallows and swapping stories. One Sunday a month, we'll be stoking the fires here at LSNC. Bring your family, friends, camp chairs, outdoor games, and s'mores fixings. We'll provide a blazing outdoor campfire and plenty of marshmallows. This event is rain or shine (except for thunder and lightening), so come dressed for the weather.

Spring Eggstravaganza
Saturday, March 31, 2018 - 10:00am to 12:00pm
Ages: Youth 12 and under, and their families
$8 per child, adults are free

Birds, Insects, Amphibians—oh my! Come out to LSNC for a morning of investigating the many animals that lay eggs. Hunt for eggs in the woods and fields by following clues, solving riddles, or using GPS devices. Meet our birds of prey up close, visit the Critter House, play games, and more. You may even win one of five grand prizes if you find one of the elusive golden eggs! Bring your own bag or basket for collecting eggs and prizes, grab a friend, and join us for an EGGcelent morning of fun and adventure. Please note: This is a candy-free event.

Frog Fest: Families
Friday, April 13, 2018 - 6:30pm to 8:30pm
Ages: All Ages (Youth must be accompanied by an adult)
$8 per person or $30 per family ($7 per person or $25 per family for all LSNC Members)

Celebrate the wonderful world of frogs! Learn to identify some frogs and toads native to Michigan and hike to Black Pond to look and listen for them in the wild. Meet some of LSNC's resident amphibians from all over the world and observe these slippery and bumpy creatures while they eat a meal. This is an event that frog lovers and nature enthusiasts will not want to miss!

**This program will include hike groups for all ages as well as for adults 18+. Please indicate your preference at registration.

Critters Up Close

Every month, Ann Arbor Hands On Museum visitors get up close and personal with some of our favorite critters from the natural world!  Join us for hands-on activities and a meet and greet with critters from 10-4 on Saturday (with a mid-day “Animal Naptime”) and 1-4 on Sunday. This month the featured critters are salamanders and vernal pond life, and they are ready for their close up!

Ann Arbor Earth Day Festival

The Ann Arbor Earth Day Festival is an annual celebration coordinated by the Ann Arbor Earth Day Festival Planning Committee, a coalition of local environmental nonprofits and agencies, and held at Leslie Science & Nature Center. This free, family-friendly event features displays from 40 local environmental, nonprofit, and governmental organizations; live animal demonstrations; hands-on activities; live entertainment; green building & commuting technologies; energy topics; water awareness; sustainable agriculture; and more.

Parents' Night Out - Stories of the Sky
Saturday, April 28, 2018 - 5:00pm to 10:00pm
Ages: Youth currently enrolled in K-6th grades
$30 per child ($25 per child for LSNC Enhanced Members)

It's a night out for grown-ups while the kids enjoy an exciting evening at LSNC. Turn your eyes skyward to study constellations and planets. Learn about the science behind telescopes and dream up your own star-related myths and legends. Parents’ Night Out includes a Panera sandwich box with PB&J or Turkey sandwich as well as a late-night popcorn snack. Families are welcome to send their child with a brown-bag dinner. Activities will be outside as much as possible, so please come dressed for the weather!

Registration is required by 12PM on Wedensday, 4/25 in order to receive a Panera box dinner as we must place our order 3 days in advance. If you register after the cut-off date, your child will need to come with a dinner from home.  Register for this event online, or call 734-997-1553.

Mother's Day Wildflower Hike
Sunday, May 13, 2018 - 1:00pm to 2:30pm
Ages: All Ages (Youth must be accompanied by an adult)
$5 per person, free for all mothers

Treat the mothers and mother figures in your life to a guided wildflower hike through Black Pond Woods and the LSNC grounds, or take the hike yourself in their honor! We'll find lovely blooms popping up through the grass or sprouting on the forest floor. Enjoy a short presentation on local wildflowers and then get outside to see what is blooming here at LSNC. During the presentation and hike, participants will learn basic plant identification skills using field guides as well as some of the fascinating folklore surrounding some of these plants. Enjoy a "tea time" of ice-cold lemonade or iced tea and granola bars in the garden before you head home. Space is limited, so pre-registration is required! We encourage participants to make a day of your trip by bringing a picnic lunch and enjoying Critter House Open Hours between 10am and 1pm before the program.
