Winter Stargazing with Brian Ottum
Saturday, January 20, 2018 - 7:30pm to 9:00pm
Ages: 13 and older. Minors must be accompanied by an adult.
$5 per person

Spend the evening stargazing in the warm comfort of our Energy House! Local astronomer Brian Ottum will show us live views of the moon, stars, and nebulae from his remote observatory in New Mexico on the Big Screen. If it's a cloudy night in New Mexico, we will view images and video Brian has captured throughout the year. Popcorn and juice/soda are included. Prints and images of the sky will be available for sale.

Migration Madness
Sunday, January 21, 2018 - 10:00am to 11:30am
Ages: Youth 5-12 and their families
$8 per person or $30 per family ($7 per person or $25 per family for all LSNC Members)

Spread your wings and soar at this exciting program all about bird habitats and behavior. Map your own migratory path and learn why birds fly north and south to get what they need to survive. Complete challenges together and learn how to identify some of LSNC's resident raptors and their wild counterparts. You'll even leave with some tips for making your yard or neighborhood a better habitat for migrating birds!

Nature Storytime - Chirp, Peep, Caw!
Wednesday, January 24, 2018 - 10:00am to 11:00am
Ages: 1-5 years old with an adult
$5 per child ($4 per member), adults and children under 1 year old are free

Nature Storytime has many opportunities for you and your little one to explore and appreciate the outdoors, such as live animal visits, hikes, stories, and hands-on activities. This week we will explore sounds outside, and make our own sounds. Nature Storytime takes place Wednesday mornings and every other Sunday for one hour. Each session includes indoor and outdoor activities – so make sure to dress for the weather!

Parents' Night Out - Flight School
Saturday, January 27, 2018 - 5:00pm to 10:00pm
Ages: Youth currently enrolled in K-6th grades
$30 per child ($25 per child for LSNC Enhanced Members)

It's a night out for grown-ups while the kids enjoy an exciting evening at LSNC. Study our resident hawks, falcons, and owls up close to discover how birds soar high in the sky or maneuver so quickly through the trees. Build your own flying device and take notes on designs and innovations in your lab journal. Parents’ Night Out includes a Panera sandwich box with PB&J or Turkey sandwich as well as a late-night popcorn snack. Families are welcome to send their child with a brown-bag dinner. Activities will be outside as much as possible, so please come dressed for the weather!

Registration is required by 12PM on Wednesday, 1/24 in order to receive a Panera box dinner as we must place our order 3 days in advance. If you register after the cut-off date, your child will need to come with a dinner from home. Register for this event online, or call 734-997-1553.

Superb-Owl Sunday
Sunday, February 4, 2018 - 10:00am to 1:00pm
Ages: All ages (Youth must be accompanied by an adult)
$5 per person

Come to Critter House Open Hours and then stop by for our Superb-Owl Sunday celebration! Stay for five minutes or an hour at this carnival-style event where you'll learn how our wildlife staff prepare food for these nocturnal raptors and keep their enclosures safe and clean. Make enrichment toys for our birds to play with or dissect an owl pellet and reconstruct the skeleton inside. Have your picture taken with one of our resident owls. Leave with some ideas for making your yard or neighborhood a safer, more welcoming habitat for owls. The best part? You can do all this and still get home in time for the big game!

Nature Tykes - Planet Protectors
Wednesday, February 7, 2018 - 9:45am to Wednesday, February 28, 2018 - 11:15am
Ages: 4-5 years old
$40 per child ($36 for all LSNC members)

Our Nature Tykes Preschool Program gives your 4-5 year old the opportunity to learn and grow independently in this 1.5 hour drop-off program. It is a great supplement to, or step towards, a full-day preschool program. Registration is by the month, and each session is designed to encourage your little one to ask questions, explore the outdoors, and develop important classroom skills as we hike in Black Pond Woods, meet live animals, make crafts, and run hands-on experiments. This month we will explore different ways we can protect nature! Activities are indoors and outdoors – so make sure to dress for the weather!

Critters Up Close

Free with Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum admission

Every month, Ann Arbor Hands On Museum visitors get up close and personal with some of our favorite critters from the natural world!  Join us for hands-on activities and a meet and greet with critters from 10-4 on Saturday (with a mid-day “Animal Naptime”) and 1-4 on Sunday. This month the featured critters are worms and friends, and they are ready for their close up!
