Early Childhood Education Intern

Job Title: Early Childhood Education Intern                            

Reports To: Education Manager

Purpose & Summary: Successful candidate will assist and support Leslie Science & Nature Center’s preschool education programs.

Compensation: This internship is unpaid.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assisting with LSNC’s preschool programs - Tiny Tots, Tykes, Nature Tales, and preschool class outreach and field trips.
  • Planning, preparing, and co-teaching preschool programs.
  • Documenting lesson plans and class ideas.
  • Implementing an evaluation procedure for preschool programs.
  • Handling captive animals including reptiles, arachnids, insects, amphibians, and small mammals during educational programs.

Requirements:

  • Must currently be pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's Degree with at least 2 semesters of college education in early childhood education.  Applicant must provide transcript showing courses taken to fulfill requirement.
  • Must possess a strong interest and enthusiasm about the environment and a desire to share that appreciation of nature with children and the public.
  • Must have good communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Must be a team player with creativity, imagination, and energy.
  • Willingness to help with a variety of different tasks and projects.
  • Experience working with children and with the public is a plus.
  • First Aid and CPR certification is preferred.
  • Must be able to commit to the entire period of work.

Length of appointment: One semester. Candidate will attend program training dates when scheduled if possible.  Minimum of 15-20 hours per week preferred, flexible contingent upon mutually agreeable schedule which will include weekends.
