Scholarship Funding for School Programs

We have received wonderful donations supporting science and nature programming in schools for the 2017-2018 year, and invite teachers and school administrators to take advantage of this amazing opportunity.

The Leslie Science & Nature Center is excited to offer scholarships to schools thanks to the generous support of our donors. This funding is limited and will be distributed based on need until depleted. Donate to support our scholarship program!

Scholarships can be applied for online. Scholarship applications for the 2017-2018 school year are due by September 29th.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the maximum number of student participants for each program type?
  • Preschool Outreach – 20 students
  • Elementary Outreach – 30 students
  • Field Trips at LSNC – 60 students
What does the scholarship cover?

Scholarships cover 50% of the program cost.
Standard costs can be found on our field trip and outreach pages.
The scholarship will not cover fees associated with extended breaks in between presentations.  We will work with scholarship recipients to schedule programs efficiently to reduce costs and avoid additional fees.

How many scholarships can my class receive?

All schools are eligible for one scholarship per class, per school year.

How can I apply for a scholarship for my entire grade?

If your whole grade would like to apply for scholarships, please have one representative fill out the application. Please remember that for outreaches, we can only visit one classroom at a time, so we will need to visit each class separately. We will work with you to find times that work for everyone.  Multiple classrooms can attend our field trips at the same time.

What is your cancellation policy?
  • All LSNC school programs take place rain or shine.  Please have students dress for the weather with appropriate footwear. SEVERE WEATHER: if your school is cancelled, or if LSNC deems it unsafe, we will work to reschedule your program within the school year based on schedule availability, or refund your portion of the payment if necessary.
  • Non-weather related cancellations must occur 48 hours in advance, or a $75 processing fee will be charged.  The $75 fee is applied to any cancellation whether it is an entire organization, or one scheduled class from a multi class visit.
  • Please note that cancelling a scholarship program may mean forfeiting your scholarship award for that year.
When is payment due?

Payment is required prior to the program for outreaches and the day of for field trips, unless you have made other arrangements in advance with the LSNC office. If a school fails to pay their percentage of any program, they will forfeit all future scholarship opportunities for the entire school.

I have turned in my scholarship application. What’s next?

You will be contacted via email regarding the status of your application. If you are offered a scholarship, you must accept the award and finalize program details with LSNC within five working days. If this five day timeline is not met, you may forfeit your scholarship for the school year.

My class did not receive a scholarship. Why not?

If you do not receive a scholarship, it may be because you submitted your application after the due date, you submitted an incomplete application, your application was illegible, or we did not have enough funds to cover your school. We give priority to schools most in need of our support.

Please note: All scholarship recipients will be asked to commit to creating thank you cards, submitted to LSNC to be shared with our scholarship donors.  Thank you for helping us to share the impact of these programs with our supporters!
