Adoption Programs
Take one of our programs under your wing
Don't worry. This doesn't mean a sharp beaked predator or an entire third grade classroom will be taking permanent residence in your guest room. What it does mean is that you will have a direct, ongoing connection with the creatures and educational programs that you love. It means that the animals you care about will be cared for and that kids of all ages will have the opportunity to share that love. It's a great way to help you and your kids—be they your own or part of a school group, troop or class — understand that what we do impacts life around us. We invite you to adopt a creature or class on behalf of someone you esteem or as a generous and lasting act of self expression.
Adopt-a-Class
The environmental education programs provided by the Leslie Science & Nature Center have a tremendous impact on the children with whom we work and play. Children learn important scientific principles in ecology and biology through exploration, experiments, investigation, interactive games and open discovery. At the same time, children develop a love of and comfort with the great outdoors.
Many schools in southeast Michigan have incredibly limited resources, and these students may not be able to come without the generosity of people like you! All of our programs supplement and enrich the science curriculum and cover environmental education concepts that are critical to understand in today's world. Through this program, your donation will enable children to participate in our popular environmental education programs. We hope you will support the science and environmental education field trip programs that we offer to school age children.
Yes, I'd like to Adopt-a-Class!
Adopt-a-Raptor
The Leslie Science & Nature Center's Adopt-A-Raptor Program gives you an opportunity to provide direct support to our birds of prey. Our education birds are non-releasable and need permanent care. Your adoption ensures that these birds continue to inspire and educate our visitors. Your adoption gifts are put to work immediately:
- Feeding and caring for birds
- Providing medical treatment when needed
- Conducting training of birds and staff
- Defraying costs of educational programs for schools that cannot afford presentation costs
- Inspiring more visitors through educational programs
We have three adoption levels:
- Gold: $240 ($10 per month) - Two year adoption
- Silver: $120 ($10 per month) - One year adoption
- Bronze: $50 (reserved for school and youth groups)
When you adopt a bird of prey you receive:
- A thank you letter that explains the significance of your gift
- A color photograph of the bird you adopted
- A biography of the bird you adopted
- A fact sheet about the species of the bird you adopted
- A certificate that recognizes your adoption
- An adopt-a-raptor bumper sticker.
- Your name/group name posted on the birds’ enclosure.
When you adopt a bird of prey for someone else, they receive all of the above, and you receive our warmest thanks and a receipt for your tax-deductible donation.
