Summer Camp 2008

Join us at our Nature Adventure Day Camp to unlock nature’s mysteries through hands-on discovery and outdoor fun! Exploration of the ponds, woods, fields, and Critter House will provide exciting experiences for young people. Possible activities include hiking through the woods, scavenger hunts, experimenting with pond water, creating nature inspired art, and watching frogs, turtles and bugs in the pond. We’ll also participate in geo caching adventures, build shelters, play games, and have fun enjoying the warmth of the summer sun. The Leslie Science & Nature Center day camp is licensed by the State of Michigan.

Nature Tykes are for children who are 4 & 5 years old. The camps sessions are divided into half days which are AM and PM. The AM session goes from 8:30 am to 11:00 am and the PM session is from 12:30 pm to 3:00 pm. During the week they will explore LSNC through crafts, stories, games, hikes and other fun activities. The cost for a half day session is $90.00.
World Explorers are for those who have completed Kindergarten or 1st grade. These are full day sessions that go from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm. This group will investigate many aspects of LSNC relating to the weekly theme. This could include any or all of our habitats, games, hiking, trips to the pond, crafts, stories, and choice day. The cost for this week long camp is $210.00
Nature Quest campers will head off site for an all day adventure while children fourth grade and older will canoe and explore the Huron River. This includes full day sessions with a cost of $210.00 for a full week. This camp is for campers who have completed 2nd and 3rd grade.
Pathfinder Overnight Adventure-Session EE, Aug 4-8 for completed grades 4th/5th. In addition to the usual Pathfinder’s fun, during this week only campers will enjoy an overnight on Thursday, filled with cookout, campfire, night hike and tent sleeping right here at LSNC. Tents and sleeping bags can be provided. Pathfinder has a cost of $210.00 for full day week long camp. The overnight adventure has a cost of $250.00
Outbound Adventures for completed Grades 6th/7th - Sessions WW, XX and YY will enjoy days of orienteering, a city wide scavenger hunt, canoeing, and outdoor survival, all leading up to an overnight camping trip and high ropes course off site. This adventure has a cost of $280.00
Leadership Adventure for completed Grades 8th-10th Session ZZ - Develop your outdoor skills and leadership abilities this summer. Together we’ll plan a two night camping adventure with amazing activities that you help organize. Come join the fun! This week of leadership building costs $290.00
Backpacking Adventure- New this year. Completed grades 9th-11th Session UU. Spend time with LSNC naturalists exploring the wilds of Picture Rocks National Lakeshore. This is a beginner’s trip, no experience necessary, gear can be provided at no extra cost as we head on a three night backpacking trip. (Mon- trip prep, Tues- depart, Fri-return) This trip to Breathtaking Picture Rocks National Lakeshore has a cost of $320.00
Extended Day Camp - An extended day camp program will be offered from 3:00-5:30 pm for Sessions M, O, P, U, X, Y, CC, EE, and FF to accommodate working parents. These extended hours include art, games, snacks and free time. The additional cost will be $75 per child per week.

Space is limited in all sessions; therefore, you may register your child for a maximum of three sessions. Please review our camp refund and scholarships policies on this page. Camp Hours - The hours for the Day Camps are as follows: Half-Day Camps AM, 8:30-11:00 am; Half-Day Camps PM, 12:30-3:00 pm; Full-Day Camps, 8:30 am-3:00 pm; Extended Day Camp, 3:00-5:30 pm.

Fees - The fees for the Nature Adventure Day Camp Program are as follows: Half-Day Camp (AM or PM) - $90; Full-Day Camp - $210; Pathfinders Overnight Adventure-$250; Outbound Adventures - $280; Adventure Leadership $290; Backpacking Adventure-$320;Extended Day Camp - $75. Fee for the four day camp of June 30-July 3 is $155.

Registration Information

There are several ways to register for these popular programs.

You can fill out the registration form available here and fax it to the Leslie Science Center with payment information. The fax number is 997-1072.
You can also send the registration to the Leslie Science Center at 1831 Traver Road, Ann Arbor, MI 48105
Or, drop off the registration at the office between 8:30 am and 4 pm, Monday through Friday, or leave it in the drop box outside of the office when the office is closed.

Important Information:

All of our staff have been trained in first aid, CPR, and outdoor education.
The general ratio of staff to campers is 1 to 8, and it is 1 to 7 for preschoolers. We often have volunteers in addition to that.
Our camp is licensed by the State of Michigan.
Children who stay all day need to bring a lunch. We provide healthy snacks during the day.
We do go outside every day even if it is raining. Please make sure your child has clothing that is suitable for wet weather. We stay inside if the weather is dangerous.
