The Leslie Science and Nature Center offers two unique buildings to rent for your business meeting, party or special event.

The Nature House is a wonderful blend of energy efficiency, environmental friendliness, and coziness. The Nature House utilizes solar arrays, radiant floor heating, a grey water planting bed and clean and odor-free composting toilets. Tours are available on request.

Nature House: three long tables, 32 folding chairs, sink, oven, refrigerator, outlets, screen for slide shows, a phone, a men's and a women's bathroom. Because the Nature House uses the wastewater from sinks in a gray-water planting bed, please only use soap and detergents provided when washing dishes and hands. The Nature House sits 45- 50 people.

The Leslie House is an intimate, historic building that is welcoming and comfortable. Both the Nature House and the Leslie House have kitchen facilities, restrooms, phones and carpeted floors all surrounded by fields, prairies, and woods.

Leslie House: one long table, 15 folding chairs (in hallway), 4 armchairs, one hot pot, one refrigerator, two microwaves, outlets, screen for slide shows, one uni-sex bathroom. The Leslie House comfortably sits 25 people. Neither building has extension cords, sound system, or audio-visual equipment.

Please see the rules and regulations below regarding renting a building at Leslie Science and Nature Center.

A contact person representing the Renter must remain at the Leslie Science and Nature Center for the duration of the rental time or until all of the guests and service providers have left. The caretaker who lives on site or a Leslie Science and Nature Center staff person will be available in case of emergencies.

Cancellations made less than two weeks before the program will result in a forfeiture of $25.00.

Any groups or individuals renting the Leslie Science and Nature Center and/or surrounding grounds, herein known as LSNC, expressly waive all claims of any kind against the City of Ann Arbor and all of its agents or employees for personal injury, bodily injury, property loss or damage or any other loss from any cause arising out of the use by the Renter and its guests.

Although not required to rent the LSNC, it is always suggested that the Renter provides, at their own expense, comprehensive general insurance protection against any liability or claim on account of bodily injury or property damage occurring in or about the LSNC during or incidental to the use thereof by the Renter.

The Renter is responsible for any damage to the LSNC caused by the Renter, its employees, agents and their guests. The Cleaning/Damage security deposit will be applied to any damage that occurred or to the hourly staff time needed to clean up after a group when necessary. Any amount due in excess of the deposit shall be reimbursed to the City of Ann Arbor within 14 days of complete assessment of damages, cleaning and repairs work done.

The names, dates, times and specifics of deliveries to be made before the scheduled function must be pre-arranged with the Leslie Science and Nature Center Office Manager (734) 997 1553.

A $100.00 cleaning/damage security deposit is due one month prior to the date of the scheduled function. Full or partial deposit shall be refunded within 14 days allowing inspection of the facility.

The full rental fee and signed contract are required within 14 days of receipt of this contract to finalize the rental date.

The facility is a smoke-free environment and shall be strictly enforced.

Facility closing time is 10:00 pm. All guests must be out of the facility by that time. The Caretaker will tour the building with the Contact Person before leaving. Please contact the Caretaker at the duration of your event.

At any point during a function, an agent of LSNC may terminate an event before a scheduled ending time at his or her discretion without rescheduling or refunding part of the rental fee. Possible reasons for termination of an event in progress:

Violence

Vandalism

Drug or hard liquor use

Noise levels in violation of the City's ordinance

Refusal to comply with any part of the rental agreement

Violation of any City, State or Federal law

Beer and wine may only be served to adults 21 years or older. No hard liquor permitted. The sale of any alcoholic beverages is prohibited.

No signs, other articles or attachments may be affixed or otherwise attached to walls, doors, posts or floors by means of staples, tape, nails or any other type of affixing material which might mar the walls or wooden surface. Other decorative options must be discussed and approved with the Facility Rental Coordinator in advance.

Parking is provided in the lot east of the buildings. The service drive is for loading/unloading purposes only. No parking on the grass please.

The Nature House fireplace may only be used with prior permission and instruction of the LSNC caretaker. The fireplace in the Leslie House may not be used.

No other buildings will be accessible or open other than the one being rented. The rental group is welcome to tour the grounds.

We keep the hourly costs of the rental low because we expect the rental group to do the following clean up:

All trash thrown out in proper receptacles (please recycle when possible). Extra trash bags are under the sink in the Leslie House and in the closet between the bathrooms in the Nature House.
