The Ann Arbor Area Earth Day Festival is an annual celebration coordinated by the Earthday Festival Planning Committee, a coalition of over fifteen local environmental nonprofits and agencies, and held at Leslie Science & Nature Center. A limited number of innovative clean energy groups and businesses are highlighted each year, as coordinated by the nonprofit Clean Energy Coalition. This free, family-friendly event features displays from 40 local environmental, nonprofit, and governmental organizations; live animal demonstrations; hands-on activities; live entertainment; green building & commuting technologies; energy topics; water awareness; sustainable agriculture; and more.

Fireside Fun - A Good Old-fashioned Campfire Circle

There's nothing quite as relaxing as sitting around a campfire, roasting marshmallows and swapping stories. One Sunday a month, we'll be stoking the fires here at LSNC. Bring your family, camp chairs, and s'mores fixings. We'll provide a blazing outdoor campfire and plenty of marshmallows. 

Tiny Tot Walks
Wednesday, April 20, 2016 - 10:00am to 11:00am
Ages: 1-3 years old, caregiver required
Cost: $4 per child for Non-Members, $3 per child for Members

Getting outside with your toddler can be a fun way to spend a morning! Join us as we take a guided walk along our trails to see what each month during the seasons brings us.  Each walk will last about 1 hour and will take a very leisurely pace to accommodate the tot's little legs. This program is designed for adults to stay with their children. The group will meet on the front porch of the Leslie House.

Spring Eggstravaganza
Saturday, April 23, 2016 - 10:00am to 11:00am
Ages: Ages 12 and under accompanied by an adult
$8 per child, adults are free

Celebrate spring with LSNC's unique egg hunts! Bring your own basket and set off on a scavenger egg hunt through our trails, find them all and turn them in for a prize.  There will be two scavenger hunts, one for the yourger kids and one for the older kids. What animals at LSNC lay eggs? What do those eggs look like? Find out as you complete our egg size & shape hunt. For the very observant there will be a few "golden" eggs hidden throughout the site - find one and get a special prize. In addition to the egg hunts enjoy stories read around a campfire, crafts, and LSNC's live animals.

Tykes Preschool Program - In the Garden
Tuesday, May 3, 2016 - 9:00am to 11:00am
Ages: 4-5 years old
Cost: $50 per child per month for Non-Members, $45 per child per month for Members

Springtime means it is time to start planting in our gardens!  This month we will learn all about plants, sprout our own seeeds, and visit LSNC's gardens to do some planting of our own!

Our Tykes preschool programs are designed for your 4-5 year old in mind.  Each session is two hours long and you can drop your child off or stay with them knowing they will have a fun and educational time learning about a variety of science and nature topics.  They will participate in a variety of activities including animal presentations, hikes in Black Pond Woods, crafts, experiments, and a snack.  The activities are centered on each month's theme.  May's theme is In the Garden, and runs Tuesday May 3, 10, 17, and 24 from 9-11.

Join us for this naturally unique story time! We will read "The Salamander Room" by Anne Mazer, then explore and look under rocks and logs to see what critters we can find living in Black Pond Woods. Each month we accompany the story with a selection of hands-on, nature-themed pursuits that will include live animal visits and an outdoor activity. Nature Tales happen twice a month during the school year - you can choose to come on Wednesday or Saturday!

Mother's Day Wildflower Hike

$5 per person, Moms are free

Treat the mothers and mother figures in your life to a guided wildflower hike through Black Pond Woods and the LSNC grounds, or take the hike yourself in their honor! We'll find lovely blooms popping up through the grass or sprouting on the forest floor. She’ll feel like Mother of the Year! LSNC invites local families – especially mothers! – and other individuals interested in learning more about our native spring wildflowers to join us for this event. You will be treated to a short presentation on local wildflowers and then get outside to see what is blooming here at LSNC. During the presentation and hike, participants will learn basic plant identification skills using field guides as well as some of the fascinating folklore surrounding some of these plants.

Frogs
Friday, May 13, 2016 - 7:00pm to 9:00pm
Ages: All Ages
Cost: $9/person or $34/family non-member; $8/person or $30/family for LSNC members

Come celebrate the beloved frog as we dive deep into their anatomy and lifestyle. Participants will hike to Black Pond and discover the delicate balance of their habitat. We may even get to hear some frogs calling! Also, get an up-close look at some amphibians in our Nature House and practice identifying our Michigan frogs by listening to their distinct calls. Dress for the weather because for this program we are actually hoping for rain! Frogs love it!
