There's nothing quite as relaxing as sitting around a campfire roasting marshmallows and swapping stories. One Sunday a month we'll be stoking the fires here at LSNC, so bring your family, camp chairs, and s'mores fixings - we'll provide a blazing outdoor campfire and plenty of marshmallows.

Frog Fest
Saturday, May 2, 2015 - 7:00pm to 9:00pm
Ages: All ages
$9/person or $34/family non-member; $8/person or $30/family for LSNC members.

Come celebrate the wonderful world of frogs with us by learning how to identify the frogs and toads of Michigan, then trekking to Black Pond to look for some of these animals in the wild! After your hike, you'll meet some Michigan amphibian friends and others from around the world in our Critter House then watch these slippery, bumpy creatures eat a meal. Games, live animal presentations, and other learning activities make this a festival frog lovers won't want to miss. This program usually sells out, so we recommend registering early! Space is limited, and pre-registration is encouraged.

Tykes Preschool Program - Bug Bonanza
Tuesday, May 5, 2015 - 9:00am to 11:00am
Ages: Ages 4-5, caregivers welcome but not required.
$50/child non-member; $45/child for LSNC members for the whole month!

This program includes four weeks of Tykes sessions, including 5/5, 5/12, 5/19, 5/26/2015.

Move with moths, crawl with caterpillars, lunch with ladybugs, and spin with spiders all month long! We’ll discover the beautiful world of insects and their relatives during this bug bonanza. After meeting insects through stories we will sweep, shake, dig, and call for our buggy friends in the fields, forest, and pond. Space is limited, so pre-registration is required.

Walking through our woods you might hear all kinds of tweets, chirps, screeches, and calls. Come discover the critters behind those sounds, then enjoy listening to the breezes through the springtime leaves! We might even make some critter sounds of our own! Mother's Day Wildflower Hike

Treat the mothers and mother figures in your life to a guided wildflower hike through Black Pond Woods and the LSNC grounds, or take the hike yourself in their honor!  LSNC invites local families – especially mothers! – and other individuals interested in learning more about our native spring wildflowers to join us for this event. You will be treated to a short presentation on local wildflowers and then get outside to see what is blooming here at LSNC. During the presentation and hike, participants will learn basic plant identification skills using field guides as well as some of the fascinating folklore surrounding some of these plants. We'll find lovely blooms popping up through the grass or sprouting on the forest floor! Space is limited, so preregistration is required.

Nature Tales - A Flighty Tale

Join us for this naturally unique story time! Before the sun comes up, it is still and quiet outside - then just before sunrise, a chorus of birds erupts and greets the new day. We will read "Birdsongs" by Betsy Franco and learn more about our singing friends. Each month we accompany the story with a selection of hands-on, nature-themed pursuits that include live animal visits and an outdoor activity. Space is limited, and pre-registration is encouraged.

Mayfly - Our Annual Fundraising Event!

Current and potential supporters gather for an upscale evening to celebrate Leslie Science & Nature Center and to ensure our continued success. Wandering our beautiful grounds under twinkling lights, guests enjoy drinks and a catered meal set to live music while mingling with LSNC's staff as they provide up-close interactions with our live birds of prey and Critter House animals. The evening culminates with a demonstration flight by our amazing raptors.

Monarch Butterfly Conservation Kickoff

Be there at the beginning as we prepare for raising gorgeous Monarch caterpillars here at LSNC. This is the first step towards our Monarch Butterfly Migration Festival in September where we will tag and release butterflies ready for their journey south. Help us develop our “Monarch Waystation” and learn how to create your own at home. We will get you started with your own milkweed plant or seeds! Space is limited, and pre-registration is encouraged.
