Tykes Preschool Program - Dr Seuss Adventures
Tuesday, March 3, 2015 - 9:00am to 11:00am
Ages: Ages 4-5, caregivers welcome but not required.

This program includes four weeks of Tykes sessions, including 3/3, 3/10, 3/17, 3/24/15.

We’ll celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday month by reading his books and taking adventures inspired by those stories. Be prepared to discover wacky animals and silly characters that will inspire our walks in Black Pond Woods, help us create Seuss-inspired art, and get us moving in fun and strange ways! Space is limited, so pre-registration is required.

Tiny Tots: Dr Seuss on the Loose

Help LSNC celebrate Dr. Seuss's birth! We will make a Seuss-themed craft, play games inspired by his books, and take a walk in Black Pond Woods to see if we can find Truffala Trees. Space is limited, and pre-registration is encouraged.

Ornithology: An in-depth look at bird life, anatomy, and identification
Thursday, March 5, 2015 - 7:00pm to 9:00pm
Ages: Adults
$295/person

Join Dea Amstrong, City of Ann Arbor Ornithologist and expert birder, and Francie Krawcke, Leslie Science & Nature Center Raptor Program Director, for this eight week ornithology class. Perfect for the beginner or intermediate birder, sessions will delve into anatomy and physiology, behavior, taxonomy, reproduction, vocalizations, and identification. Class consists of Thursday evening lectures from 7:00-9:00 p.m. and Saturday morning fieldtrips; field trip start times vary due to sunrise time and field trip destination. Sessions are 3/5, 3/7, 3/12, 3/14, 3/19, 3/21, 3/26, 3/28, 4/2, 4/11, 4/16, 4/18, 4/23, 4/25, 4/30, & 5/2. Space is limited, and preregistration is required.

Parents' Night Out - Creatures of the Night

It's a night out for parents while kids explore a unique evening here at LSNC!  Through crafts, stories, activities, a night hike, and meeting some of our animals up close, your child will discover the fascinating world of nocturnal creatures and discover what life at LSNC is like after dark. We will provide a pizza dinner and an evening snack. It's a great night for parents to take a breather, go out, and enjoy themselves while their children have a fun and educational evening with our phenomenal Educators. Nature Tales - A Dr Seuss Tale

Join us for this naturally unique story time! March is National Reading Month, so we are celebrating by reading "Bartholomew and the Oobleck" by Dr. Seuss, one of our favorite authors! Do you know what oobleck is? We'll explore this wonderful substance and have fun with other Seuss-themed activities. Each month weaccompany the story with a selection of hands-on, nature-themed pursuits that will include live animal visits and an outdoor activity. Fireside Fun - A Good Old-fashioned Campfire Circle

There's nothing quite as relaxing as sitting around a campfire roasting marshmallows and swapping stories. One Sunday a month we'll be stoking the fires here at LSNC, so bring your family, camp chairs, and s'mores fixings - we'll provide a blazing outdoor campfire and plenty of marshmallows.

Spring Eggstravaganza
Saturday, April 4, 2015 - 10:00am to 12:00pm
Ages: Ages 12 and under
$8/child; caregiver required.

Celebrate spring with LSNC's unique egg hunts! Bring your own basket and set off on a scavenger egg hunt through our trails, find them all, and turn them in for a prize. We'll also hold two scavenger hunts - one for the yourg kids and one for the older kids. What animals at LSNC lay eggs? What do those eggs look like? Find out as you complete our egg size & shape hunt. For the very observant there will be a few "golden" eggs hidden throughout the site - find one for a special prize. In addition to the egg hunts enjoy stories read around a campfire, crafts, and LSNC's live animals. Space is limited for this popular event, and preregistration is required.

Each week will start with a clue that will lead us into our adventure, and using hand lenses, microscopes, stories, and games we’ll decode the meaning of the week’s clues. It's so much fun to see rainbows after the rain and count how many colors you can pick out in each one! Ann Arbor Area 44th Annual Earth Day Festival

The Ann Arbor Area Earth Day Festival is an annual celebration coordinated by the Environmental Education Network of Washtenaw (EE-NOW), a coalition of over fifteen local environmental nonprofits and agencies, and held at Leslie Science & Nature Center. A limited number of innovative clean energy groups and businesses are highlighted each year, as coordinated by the nonprofit Clean Energy Coalition. This free, family-friendly event features displays from local environmental, nonprofit, and governmental organizations; live animal demonstrations; hands-on activities; product & toy testing; live entertainment; green building & commuting technologies; energy topics; water awareness; sustainable agriculture; and more.
