Owl Do I Love Thee?

Inspired by the heart-shaped faces of our owls, we'll be celebrating Valentine's Day here at LSNC! This special evening event is designed especially for you and your sweetheart. You'll both enjoy chocolate-covered strawberries, gourmet cheese, and a tasty beverage, then take a romantic lantern-lit poetry walk around our Raptor Enclosures to watch the sweetest of our resident owls up close. Space is limited, so preregistration is required.

Tykes Preschool Program - Sensational Senses
Sunday, February 15, 2015 - 9:00am to 11:00am
Ages: Ages 4-5, caregivers welcome but not required.
$38/child non-member; $33/child for LSNC members for the whole month!

Join us as we discover the world of LSNC using all of our senses! We will learn about a different sense each week and use it to discover more about the plants and animals that call LSNC and Black Pond Woods home. Space is limited, so pre-registration is required. This program includes 3 weeks of Tykes sessions, including February 3, 10, & 24/15.

Join us for an enchanting evening with owls. Night hikes, owl calling, and visits with live owls will fill the evening with wonder as we discover how ears, eyes, and feathers help owls survive the night. This is an adults only event. Space is limited, and preregistration is encouraged.

Nature Tales - A Nighttime Tale

Join us for this naturally unique story time! "Little Owl's Night" by Divya Srinivasan is the story of a little owl that is discovering how his animal friends are enjoying the nighttime. Come and find out who his friends are and learn about the adaptations these animals have to "living the nightlife." Each month we accompany the story with a selection of hands-on, nature-themed pursuits that will include live animal visits and an outdoor activity. The Nature of...Beer

People have been brewing beer for centuries - did you know that the process of fermentation was revolutionary for human survival? Join Brandon Groff, local science teacher, as he presents the process of brewing beer, the ecology of the ingredients used, and the history of this innovative drink. This program includes four weeks of Tykes sessions, including 3/3, 3/10, 3/17, 3/24/15.

We’ll celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday month by reading his books and taking adventures inspired by those stories. Be prepared to discover wacky animals and silly characters that will inspire our walks in Black Pond Woods, help us create Seuss-inspired art, and get us moving in fun and strange ways! Tiny Tots: Dr Seuss on the Loose

Help LSNC celebrate Dr. Seuss's birth! We will make a Seuss-themed craft, play games inspired by his books, and take a walk in Black Pond Woods to see if we can find Truffala Trees. Space is limited, and pre-registration is encouraged.

Ornithology: An in-depth look at bird life, anatomy, and identification
Thursday, March 5, 2015 - 7:00pm to 9:00pm
Ages: Adults
$295/person

Join Dea Amstrong, City of Ann Arbor Ornithologist and expert birder, and Francie Krawcke, Leslie Science & Nature Center Raptor Program Director, for this eight week ornithology class. Perfect for the beginner or intermediate birder, sessions will delve into anatomy and physiology, behavior, taxonomy, reproduction, vocalizations, and identification. Class consists of Thursday evening lectures from 7:00-9:00 p.m. and Saturday morning fieldtrips; field trip start times vary due to sunrise time and field trip destination. Sessions are 3/5, 3/7, 3/12, 3/14, 3/19, 3/21, 3/26, 3/28, 4/2, 4/11, 4/16, 4/18, 4/23, 4/25, 4/30, & 5/2. Space is limited, and preregistration is required.

Parents' Night Out - Creatures of the Night
Saturday, March 7, 2015 - 5:00pm to 9:00pm
Ages: 6-12 years old
$30/child non-member; $25/child for LSNC members.

It's a night out for parents while kids explore a unique evening here at LSNC!  Through crafts, stories, activities, a night hike, and meeting some of our animals up close, your child will discover the fascinating world of nocturnal creatures and discover what life at LSNC is like after dark. We will provide a pizza dinner and an evening snack. It's a great night for parents to take a breather, go out, and enjoy themselves while their children have a fun and educational evening with our phenomenal Educators. Space is limited, and preregistration is required.
