Nature Tales: Turtles

Join us every other Saturday morning for outdoor and nature-based activities that inspire you and your child to explore and appreciate the out-of-doors in Ann Arbor’s very own backyard (Leslie!). Each session will be centered around a specific theme and include a variety of hands-on activities, like live animal encounters, guided hikes, group games, and enticing stories.  Programs will take place outdoors please dress appropriately. This program’s theme is Turtles.

Nature Tykes: Fall Into Autumn
Tuesday, October 4, 2016 - 10:00am to Tuesday, October 25, 2016 - 11:30am
Ages: Ages 4-5
$38 per child ($36 for members)

Our Nature Tykes programs are designed for your 4-5 year old in mind.  Each 1.5 hour session allows your early learner to have authentic, age-appropriate nature-based experiences. Monthly themes will help guide activities that include live animal presentations, hikes in Black Pond Woods, natural crafts, and hands-on experiments. This state licensed drop-off program is designed to encourage participants to feel comfortable asking questions, exploring, and engaging with the natural world. . October's theme is Fall into Autumn.

Programs will take place on October 4th, 11th, 18th, and 25th from 10:00-11:30am.

Critters Up Close
Saturday, October 8, 2016 - 10:00am to Sunday, October 9, 2016 - 4:00pm

Free with museum admission

Now you have more opportunities to see Critters Up Close every month at the Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum! We bring a selection of live animals to the Museum and AAHOM offers special animal-oriented hands-on activities. Animals will be meeting and greeting visitors from 10-4 on Saturday (with a mid-day “Animal Naptime”) and 1-4 on Sunday.  This month's theme is Animal Diversity!

30th Birthday Party
Saturday, October 8, 2016 - 6:00pm to 8:00pm
Ages: All ages
Free

LSNC is turning 30 this year, and you’re invited to our birthday party! Hike, play, make art, and more with friends and family at this blow-out bash. Visit our raptors and explore the Critter House, relax by the camp fire, or do a scavenger hunt out in Black Pond Woods. Wherever you go, don’t be late for singing “Happy Birthday” and eating cake!

RSVPs are requested to make sure we have enough cake for everyone. RSVP online, or call 734-997-1553.

Rain date: Sunday, October 9, 2016, 6-8pm. If the event of rain or severe weather, we will post a cancellation notice to our Facebook page, send an email to pre-registered guests, and leave a message on the LSNC Main Office line: 734-997-1553.

Outdoor environments are a great way to engage all of your toddler’s developing senses, and get a bit of exercise! Join us every other week as we come together for a mix of guided and self-guided outdoor activities that allow parents, caregivers, and children to explore, engage with, and experience the outdoors. Programs will take place outdoors, please dress appropriately.

Astronomy Day Star Party
Saturday, October 15, 2016 - 8:00pm to 10:00pm
Ages: Recommended for ages 7 and up.
$5 per person (free for members)

Join us to celebrate Astronomy Day! The University Lowbrow Astronomers will be leading an evening of star gazing at our site.  This is a chance for you to get "close up views" of stars, planets, nebulae, and other celestial objects that are hard to see without the use of telescopes. Please call the office at (734) 997-1553 or check our Facebook page after 4pm the day of the event, a message will be posted if the party is cancelled due to rainy or cloudy weather.
