Critters Up Close

Now you have more opportunities to see Critters Up Close every month at the Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum! We bring a selection of live animals to the Museum and AAHOM offers special animal-oriented hands-on activities. Animals will be meeting and greeting visitors from 10-4 on Saturday (with a mid-day “Animal Naptime”) and 1-4 on Sunday.  This month the featured critters are lizards!

Nature Tales: A Dr. Seuss Tale
Saturday, March 12, 2016 - 11:00am to 12:00pm
Ages: 1-5 year olds with adult
Cost: $4 per child for Non-Members, $3 per child for Members

Join us for this naturally unique story time! We will read "Are You My Mother?" to celebrate the birth month of one of our favorite authors, Dr. Seuss! We will also have some Suess inspired activities for you to enjoy. Each month we accompany the story with a selection of hands-on, nature-themed pursuits that will include live animal visits and an outdoor activity. Nature Tales happen twice a month during the school year - you can choose to come on Wednesday or Saturday!

Owls: Inside & Out

What makes an owl a great nocturnal predator? Meet a few of LSNC’s resident owls to find out! Following a visit from our nocturnal raptors, we will dissect real owl pellets to find out what they are eating and why.

Raptor Feeding

Join LSNC raptor staff every second Saturday of the month for dinner time. During this hour, you can see staff prepare scrumptious raptor food for our wild owls, hawks and eagles — and, yes, that does mean dead mice and rats! This is a great time to see the birds doing their most natural behavior … eating. This will also be an opportunity to touch feathers, see a hawk or owl pellet, discover more about bird anatomy and ask our expert staff questions regarding the birds and other ways you can learn more about them!

Fireside Fun - A Good Old-fashioned Campfire Circle

There's nothing quite as relaxing as sitting around a campfire, roasting marshmallows and swapping stories. One Sunday a month, we'll be stoking the fires here at LSNC. Bring your family, camp chairs, and s'mores fixings. We'll provide a blazing outdoor campfire and plenty of marshmallows. 

March Tiny Tot Walks
Wednesday, March 23, 2016 - 10:00am to 11:00am
Ages: 1-3 years old, caregiver required
Cost: $4 per child for Non-Members, $3 per child for Members

Getting outside with your toddler can be a fun way to spend a morning! Join us as we take a guided walk along our trails to see what each month during the seasons brings us.  Each walk will last about 1 hour and will take a very leisurely pace to accommodate the tot's little legs. This program is designed for adults to stay with their children. The group will meet on the front porch of the Leslie House.

Tykes Preschool Program - Nature's Music
Tuesday, April 12, 2016 - 9:00am to 11:00am
Ages: 4-5 years old
Cost: $40 per child per month for Non-Members, $35 per child per month for Members

Nature is full of music!  We will learn about some of nature's greatest musicians and even make some music of our own!

Our Tykes preschool programs are designed for your 4-5 year old in mind.  Each session is two hours long and you can drop your child off or stay with them knowing they will have a fun and educational time learning about a variety of science and nature topics.  They will participate in a variety of activities including animal presentations, hikes in Black Pond Woods, crafts, experiments, and a snack.  The activities are centered on each month's theme.  April's theme is Nature's Music, and runs Tuesday April 12, 19, and 26 from 9-11.

Registration is required by April 7 - Register for this event online, or call 734-997-1553.  Registration is by the month, and children can start the month of their 4th birthday.

Join us for this naturally unique story time! We will read "Flower Garden" by Eve Bunting, then we will visit the garden to see if any of our plants are sprouting yet! Each month we accompany the story with a selection of hands-on, nature-themed pursuits that will include live animal visits and an outdoor activity. Nature Tales happen twice a month during the school year - you can choose to come on Wednesday or Saturday!
