An Afternoon with A.E. Claus - the Alternative Environmental Claus!

Come for an afternoon of holiday cheer as Wil Reding from Rent a Rambling Naturalist joins us to present A.E. Claus, the Alternative Environmental Claus. A.E. Claus is an 1890s-era Father Christmas complete with a long brown hooded robe, staff, and a wooden backpack brimming with interesting items. He'll entertain us with stories about holiday season traditions and enlighten us about the gifts we have already been given: Clean Water, Clean Air, Food, Shelter, Space, and Love/Care/Concern. This character presentation will last about an hour, and you are welcome to take keepsake family pictures with A.E. Claus after the presentation, so bring your camera! Space is limited, and preregistration is required.

Backyard Winter Birding
Sunday, December 7, 2014 - 1:00pm to 3:00pm
Ages: All ages
$9/person or $34/family non-member; $8/person or $30/family for LSNC members.

Do you find winter too cold to go bird watching?  You can bring the birds closer! Chickadees, nuthatches, juncos, and purple finches are just a few species we will focus on as we learn ways to encourage a these birds - and many more - to visit your yard. Setting up a feeding station is just one of the possibilities!  Learn what seed to offer, the type of feeder to hang, and a variety of suet recipes you can make. We'll also delve into behaviors to watch for and bird sounds to listen for.  You'll attend an informative presentation, visit our bird feeding station, then have the option to go on a birding hike. Bird feeders are a wonderful seasonal gift choice, so we'll also be ready to help you choose the right ones for your bird-watching friends and family! Space is limited, and preregistration is required.

Make sure to visit LSNC's Critter House open hours on Sundays from noon to 3:00 p.m. to get additional stamps and see more Critters Up Close!

Join us for this naturally unique story time!  It's a cold time of year and it can be hard to find ways to stay warm. "A Warm Winter Tale" by Carrie A. Pearson will reveal the ways different animals adapt to those cold temperatures. After the story, we'll have games and activities to help us keep warm! Each month we accompany the story with a selection of hands-on, nature-themed pursuits that will include live animal visits and an outdoor activity. Space is limited, and pre-registration is encouraged.

Tykes Preschool Program - Hop, Flap, Walk, Crawl, and Slither
Tuesday, January 6, 2015 - 9:00am to 11:00am
Ages: Ages 4-5, caregivers welcome but not required.
$50/child non-member; $45/child for LSNC members for the whole month!

This program includes four weeks of Tykes sessions, including 1/6, 1/13, 1/20, 1/27/15.

Different animals move their bodies in different ways. Through animal visits, stories, crafts, and activities we’ll discover why they move the way they do then see if we can move in the same way! Space is limited, so preregistration is required.

Join us as we discover the world of LSNC using all of our senses! We will learn about a different sense each week and use it to discover more about the plants and animals that call LSNC and Black Pond Woods home. Space is limited, so pre-registration is required. This program includes 3 weeks of Tykes sessions, including February 3, 10, & 24/15.
