Nature Tykes: What's Wild

Our Nature Tykes programs are designed for your 4-5 year old in mind. Each 1.5 hour session allows your early learner to have authentic, age-appropriate nature-based experiences. Monthly themes will help guide activities that include live animal presentations, hikes in Black Pond Woods, natural crafts, and hands-on experiments. This drop-off program is designed to encourage participants to feel comfortable asking questions, exploring, and engaging with the natural world. December's theme is What's Wild.

Programs will take place on December 6th, 13th, and 20th from 10-11:30am.

Raptors, Woods, and Critters: Opening Reception

25 local artists have come together to share their work on behalf of LSNC in a 30th Anniversary art show, Raptors, Woods, & Critters!  Join us for the Opening Reception to meet the artists including our very own Cathy Dyer, and mingle with fellow LSNC supporters.

The Reception will be held at Kerrytown Concert House, 415 N. Fourth St., Ann Arbor 48103. 

This exhibit will be available for viewing Monday – Friday, 9:30am to 5pm; during public concerts, and by appointment.

Critters Up Close

Now you have more opportunities to see Critters Up Close every month at the Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum! We bring a selection of live animals to the Museum and AAHOM offers special animal-oriented hands-on activities. Animals will be meeting and greeting visitors from 10-4 on Saturday (with a mid-day “Animal Naptime”) and 1-4 on Sunday.  This month's theme is Diurnal Raptors: Hawks and Falcons!

Parents' Night Out: Animal Engineers

It's a night out for grown-ups while the kids enjoy an exciting evening at LSNC. Study the incredible adaptations that help animals hunt, run, jump, and swim, and then apply those ideas to your own inventions and creations. Parents’ Night Out includes pizza and carrots for dinner as well as a late-night popcorn snack. Activities will be outside as much as possible, so please come dressed for the weather!

Wonderful Winter Woods

It may not seem like much is going on in Black Pond Woods this winter, but there is a lot happening beneath the brambles, soil, and snow! Hunt for tracks and animals signs in the wintry woods on a hike, make a reusable gift bag from an up-cycled t-shirt, and enjoy hot cocoa and stories by a blazing fire. The frogs, bats, and skunks may be hibernating, but this will be the perfect opportunity for humans to get outside and enjoy the season. Bring your own t-shirt to reuse or we'll provide one!

Outdoor environments are a great way to engage all of your toddler’s developing senses, and get a bit of exercise! Join us every other week as we come together for a mix of guided and self-guided outdoor activities that allow parents, caregivers, and children to explore, engage with, and experience the outdoors. Raptor Feeding

Join LSNC raptor staff for dinner time. During this hour, you can see staff prepare scrumptious raptor food for our wild owls, hawks and eagles — and, yes, that does mean dead mice and rats! This is a great time to see the birds doing their most natural behavior … eating. This will also be an opportunity to touch feathers, see a hawk or owl pellet, discover more about bird anatomy and ask our expert staff questions regarding the birds and other ways you can learn more about them! 

No registration is required.

Day Off Outdoors- Mammal Madness

Ages: Currently enrolled in grades K-5th

Winter is a wonderful time for a one-day camp where you’ll track mammals, explore the feat of hibernation, and explore the winter woods! Every LSNC camp includes opportunities to play silly games, make art, spend time outside, and meet some of LSNC’s resident animals up-close!
