KidScience in the Park

Our KidScience in the Park elementary school field trip programs have been developed with the help of local teachers and science curriculum coordinators. The programs build on and enrich science concepts taught in the classroom and are based on the Michigan science standards. Additionally, our programs are designed to foster and encourage a true caring for the earth and its varied inhabitants. Through carefully chosen hands-on activities, hikes and games, students see the myriad of interrelationships found within diverse ecological communities.

The cost for our fieldtrip programs is $4.00/student for Ann Arbor schools and $5.00/student for schools located outside of Ann Arbor. We have a $40.00 minimum. Chaperones are free. For an all day adventure, visit us for two programs and bring your lunch to eat on site.

Registration Information

Our KidScience in the Park programs are fun, informative, and unique. Here is how to sign up:

1. Pick a field trip topic. We have 12 wonderful programs from which to choose. Programs last 1.5 to 2 hours. The programs have been designed to correlate with the Michigan science benchmarks.
2. Register for the program. Please call (734) 997-1553 between the hours of 8:30 am to 4 pm to register for a program. Alternatively, you can send an e-mail to info@lesliesnc.org with the following information:
   • Which KidScience field trip program you would like to attend.
   • What date range you are looking for, including preference for days of the week and whether you prefer morning or afternoon.
   • Grade and number of students.
   • Names of all participating teachers.
   • Name of school, name of contact person, school address, phone number.
   • Whether any students have special needs of which we should be aware.
   • Whether you are planning to stay after the program or arrive early to eat lunch on site.
   • Please note: you are not registered for a program until you receive confirmation from LSC. Sending an e-mail or leaving a phone message with your request does not guarantee a spot.
3. Make arrangements for your bus. We do not handle this for you. It is especially important to contact your transportation department right away for field trips in the spring, because busses can be hard to obtain. We have had a number of schools have to cancel their field trip program because they waited too long to get a bus.
4. Prior to your trip, please do the following:
   • Be sure you have at least one adult chaperone for every group of 15 students.
   • Request that children and adults dress for the weather. Most programs include a hike. We will go outside even if it is raining, so please be prepared. We will be inside if the weather is unsafe.
   • Create nametags for students. This is helpful for our staff.
   • Divide the children into groups of 15-18 students.
   • Please be on time. We do have to end the program as scheduled even if you arrive late.
