About Us

Girl Scouts -- Outdoor Environmental Adventures

Girl Scouts will explore the outdoor environment and the natural sciences through indoor and outdoor games, projects, stories and interpretive hikes. Your troop may choose a two-hour program or an overnight program from the topics listed below. We will complete most, if not all, of the requirements but the badge itself is not included. Come join us for a wonderful experience enjoying the great outdoors!

Black Pond Adventure
Explore the Black Pond woods, investigate the Critter House animals, and roast marshmallows around the campfire. No specific badge requirements covered; this program is just for fun.

Watching Wildlife
Hike in the woods to investigate hidden animal hideaways and homes. Observe our critter house inhabitants up close to learn what they wear, eat, and how they communicate. Scouts will create an animal and go shopping for food in interpretive games.

Earth and Sky
Search high and low to find out what is in our soil and sky. Experiment with air quality and soil erosion, and observe animals in the sky, in the ground, and in our critter house.

Science in Action
Experiment with basic science concepts while earning you the Science in Action badge. Explore solid, liquid or gaseous states, then create a substance that isn’t really a solid or a liquid. In addition, we will blow up a balloon without using our breath.

Eco-Explorer
Investigate endangered animals including our poachers’ loot (confiscated by the US Fish & Wildlife Department). Discover habitats and food chains with hikes, games, and interactive discussions.

Survive Fire! or Survive Shelter!
Working together as a group we will list the priorities of survival and the essentials for life while acquiring skills to analyze emergency situations. After identifying about ways to "stay alive," we'll master fire building or shelter building skills -- depending on which program you have selected.

Challenge Course
Challenged your troop to work together to cross a simulated river of slime, to hop around pits of bubbling acid and to climb through a giant spiders web!

Earth Connections
Explore the woods, prairies and ponds and observe our local ecosystems. See  other habitats in the critter house and take a close look at Michigan trees. We’ll play games that teach us about the interconnectedness life.

Finding your Way
Enjoy a hands on, active experience learning to read and interpret maps and compasses. They then get to test their newly acquired skills by following a compass course on the LSNC grounds and will try to answer the mystery map question at each stop.

Wildlife
Hike outside to look for some of our natural state symbols and poisonous plants in our area. Venture into our critter house and observe different classifications of animals and their characteristics.
