Saturday Fling 

Saturday, December 13             10:00 am-2:00 pm

Bundle up and Join us for a fun-filled day of outdoor exploration and winter fun, including sledding if weather permits.  We will even enjoy a pizza lunch.

 

Holiday Break Camp

Celebrate the beauty and splendor of winter with games, sledding, hikes, crafts, stories and experiments.  Investigate and discover nature's winter surprises.

Days Off Outdoors

$60 for each session, ages K-5th grade

When schools are closed, come discover the wonderful world of nature! Sled down the snowy slopes. Explore the forest, fields, and trails. Be a predator while stalking your prey in a dense thicket...A different adventure awaits you each day.

Winter Break Camp

Winter is wild and wonderful! You’re invited for scientific exploration, sledding, hiking, and discovering animals. So, don't hibernate over break. Winter is full of adventures.

 

Spring Break Camp

A week of walks in the woods, poking in the ponds, frolicking in the fields fills your spring break with natural wonders. Other activities include outdoor games, survival skills, and explorations on the wet and wild side.

Tyke Programs

The Bugliest Bug

Tuesdays, September 9,16,23,30      1-2:30pm

Crawl with caterpillars, lunch with ladybugs and dance with dragonflies all month long! Young Tykes will discover the wonderful world of insects and search for the Bugliest Bug.

Tree Tykes

Fall is the perfect time to jump into the tall treasure trove of trees through leaf jumping, scientific investigation, lovely leaf art, games and hikes.

 

Fly Away or Stay

Mammals Mania

All of our parties are two hours long and are for a maximum of 15 children unless otherwise indicated.
The party includes an LSNC T-shirt for the birthday child.
Parties can be scheduled after school or on weekends.
The fee is $150.00/$125.00 resident discount.

 

Girl and Boy Scout Programs

Outdoor environmental adventures for all ages of scouts! Your troop may choose a two-hour program or an overnight program, in which we will complete most, if not all, of the requirements for many scout badges. Call 997-1553 for more information or to register.

 

 

Tiny Tot Times

Friday mornings from 9:30-11:00am

$7 per child, Age 1-3 years old with a caregiver, siblings are welcome.

Pre registration not required.

Special deal!  08-09 Tiny Tot Pass.  $75 for all 15 programs.

Discover Nature through your child’s eyes. Join us for a carnival of indoor and outdoor hands-on activities that will delight toddlers and provide a wonderful introduction to the great outdoors. Visit the Critter House and meander past our Birds of Prey to spy on owls, hawks and other raptors. Come each time for new and exciting themes.

Family Trivia Night

Sat. Sept. 13, 6-8pm at Leslie Science & Nature Center

Dinner at 6pm    Trivia 6:30-8   $20 adult/$10 child

Are you and your family nature buffs? Do you enjoy tidbits of information?  If so, join us for Family Nature Trivia.  All ages and skill levels are invited.  Bring your own team or join one for a casual, family friendly atmosphere where our minds will be challenged and our bellies will be happy.  Dinner and beverages will be provided and prizes will be awarded to the winning teams.

 

Bug Fest

Celebrate bugs, beetles, butterflies and more as we search, sweep, dip and dig into the incredible world of insects.

Birds in Focus Fundraiser

Saturday, September 27,       8:00-11:00am

$50 per person

Join local expert wildlife photographers for a light breakfast and an introduction to wildlife photography.  After instruction we’ll head out side to find some interesting subjects.  Insects, plants and of course our resident raptors will be happy to model.  The Northern Saw Whet Owl to the Bald Eagle and the other birds in between will be happy to let you practice your new skills.  Join in this once a year event and help support the LSNC “Education on the Wing” program.

 

“Get Out” Challenge KickOff

Celebrate “Take A Child Outside Week” (Sept. 24-30) by joining the “GET OUT” Challenge and Discover the natural world through your child’s eyes.  Explore your city parks and your own backyard by completing 8 out of the 10 adventure challenges by the end of October and earn a special prize. “Get Out” Challenge Nature Hike

Tuesday, September 30,        6:30-7:30pm     FREE!

Join LSNC and Natural Area Preservation at Mary Beth Doyle Park, located on the south side of Ann Arbor, for a “plants in our parks” evening walk.  For extra fun, show up early and bring a picnic.  Hikers will meet at the parking lot off of Birch Hollow Drive. Though this hike if free Pre-registration is appreciated at www.lesliesnc.org

 

Children of the Earth concert with Joe Reilly

Saturday, October 4,              4:00-5:30 pm

Join us for a fun filled and inspiring concert with Joe Reilly, a singer, songwriter and environmental educator at the Leslie Science & Nature Center. Joe, along with LSNC campers, has written and recorded songs to teach ecology and environmental stewardship and to celebrate our connections with the earth and its resources.

Animal Haunts: Creatures of the Night

Saturday, October 25,             6:00-9:00 pm

$8 per person, $30 per family, all ages invited, an adult is required

Celebrate Halloween at LSNC’s non-scary Animal Haunts featuring our favorite Creatures of the Night. Out on the trail we will visit costumed characters that will entertain and educate us with skits and songs.  Join us for games, hay jumping, face painting, and guided hikes (40 min.)  that leave from the campfire every few minutes.

 

GPS Geo-Caching

Saturday, November 15,          1:00-3:00pm

$8 per person, $30 per family, all ages invited, an adult is required

Using a global positioning system and your problem solving skills, ramble through the forest and fields in search of a hidden treasure. You can bring your own GPS or use one of ours.

January Thaw

Nature’s mysteries unravel as we learn to follow and identify animal tracks, scat, chews, and clues through Aldo Leopold’s essay January Thaw.

Nature Trivia Night at Cobblestone Farms

Wednesday, Jan. 28, Dinner at 6:00 pm     Trivia 7:00 - 9:00 pm    $20 adult

Is nature your thing?  How about trivia?  Do you enjoy a little competition?  If so come compete in our second annual nature trivia event.  Bring your own team or join one for a casual, friendly atmosphere where our minds will be challenged and our bellies will be happy.  Dinner and beverages will be provided and prizes will be awarded to the winning teams. 

 

Owl Prowl

Saturday Feb. 21,                       7:00-9:00 pm

$8 per person, $30 per family, all ages invited, an adult is required

Join us for an enchanting evening with owls. Night hikes, owl calling and visits with live owls will fill the evening with wonder as we discover how ears, eyes and feathers help owls survive the night.

Amazing Adaptations

Saturday, March 21,                   1:00-3:00 pm

Become science sleuths on the wild side as we leap, fly, run and dive into the Amazing Arena of Animal Adaptations. 

Earth Day Celebration

April 26th 12-4pm, FREE

Celebrate the earth with local environmental organizations. Explore and participate in the variety of hands on activities and demonstrations while listening to local musicians.  All are welcomed to come dressed as their favorite plant or animal and join the all species parade. 

Habitats for Home Schoolers

Friday, September 26,         1:00-3:00pm

$5/person, ages 5-12, adult required

  Ponder producers, contemplate consumers, and delve into decomposers as we investigate and explore the forest and pond habitats at LSNC and visit the animals in the Critter House.

 

 

Activities at MRF

Ann Arbor's Material Recovery Facility hosts open houses September through June on the second Saturday from 10 a.m. until noon.  MRF Open Houses allow the public to tour the recycling operations and learn about waste reduction and recycling issues.  Through our free monthly themes and activities, visitors can learn the importance of reducing, reusing, recycling, composting, and caring for our planet.  Tours are free.  Closed shoes are required.  Pre-register by calling the Leslie Science and Nature Center at 734-997-1553 or contacting info@lesliesnc.org

In case of severe weather, call 734-994-4176 for updates on open house cancellations.

 

Group Tours

Groups of 15 or more may schedule tours and enjoy themed programs on weekdays between 9 AM and 4 PM.  MRF tours are great for school groups, scouts, youth groups, civic groups, college classes, and other groups interested in learning about recycling.  Please contact LSNC for specifics on the 60-90 minute free tours at 997-1553 or info@lesliesnc.org.
