Outdoor
Environmental Adventures Boy
Scouts from Tigers through Webelos will explore the outdoor
environment and the natural sciences through indoor and outdoor
games, projects, stories and interpretive hikes. Your troop may
choose a two-hour program or an overnight program from the
topics listed below. We will complete most, if not all, of the
requirements but the badge itself is not included. Come join us
for a wonderful experience enjoying the great outdoors!
American Indian
Life-Travel through four seasons of traditional
Anishinabe life, from building shelters to growing gardens, to
passing down stories through generations and playing traditional
games.
Birds-Get to know
the feathery friends that call LSNC home! Go on a birding hike,
make feeders to take home, and hear a story about birds.
Challenge Course-Are
you up to the challenge? Use teambuilding and problem solving
skills to get your group across giant slime rivers and fire
swamps, You can while completing the challenges! No specific
requirements covered.
Forester-Explore
the tress in the forest! Learn about forests around the country
then hike outside and identify some native trees of Michigan.
How does a tree grow? What does it need to live? You’ll find out
through activities and games.
Geology-What is
made by pressure, heat, and water? Rocks! Explore the wonders of
different kinds of rocks with all their uses and abilities.
Let’s Go Outside-Create
a leaf rubbing guide to take on an exploratory hike through
Black Pond Woods. Meet the animals in our critter house and play
a fun game to learn how animals hide from predators.
Map and Compass-Become
a cartographer as we learn to read a map and compass. Make a
compass and with that knowledge in your head, you’ll complete
our orienteering course.
Naturalist-Ever
wonder where the birds go in the fall? Do you really know what
poison ivy looks like? You will, because a naturalist is always
observing the world around him. Explore and discover your
natural world.
Outdoor Adventure-Join
your den on an adventure trail, complete with obstacles around
every turn! Follow clues to learn about the plants and animals
that live in Black Pond Woods.
Science-Roll up
your sleeves and come prepared for some science exploration! Be
wowed by the wonders of science through hands-on experiments and
discoveries.
Sharing Your World with
Wildlife -Learn about
endangered species as we make feeders for the wild birds in
Black Pond Woods. We’ll enjoy a journey into the woods to search
for our forest friends and then visit the animals in our critter
house.
Water and Soil
Conservation-Become a pedologist as we discover what
makes the soil and what relies on soil. Go on a hike and explore
Black Pond to find out who calls it home.
Wildlife Conservation-Through
games and hands on activities learn what it means to be a good
steward to the animals that share our planet. We’ll hike to see
natural resources up close and do a small service project to
help wildlife.
Survive! Fire or Shelter–
Working together as a group we will list the priorities of
survival and the essentials for life while acquiring skills to
analyze emergency situations then we will head outdoors to learn
either fire building or shelter building techniques.

Program
Information
The
2- hour program:
Cost: $9 per scout.
Minimum charge $90. Adults: free.
Times: After school, evenings,
and
weekends.
The
overnight program:
Family Outdoor
Adventure, Let's Go Camping, and Outdoorsman are badges that
require an overnight. You can also pick 2 programs to create
your own overnight adventure.
Cost: $26 per scout.
Minimum charge $260. There is an 18 scout limit.
Time: from 7pm Friday or
Saturday until 10 am Saturday or Sunday. Dates are
available September through June.
Program includes: One LSNC
staff leader, activities, campfire, snacks and breakfast. We
require one adult for every five children. Adults are
free. Additional adults are encouraged and welcome.
Your group may sleep either in the Nature House on the
carpeted floor or outside in your own tents.
We require a deposit of the minimum payment within one month
from the date you scheduled your program.
How to request a program:

Call (734) 997-1553 8:30am - 4 pm. Please have the following information:
• What scout program you
would like.
• What date range you
are looking for, including your preference for days of the
week or weekend day.
• Age and number of
scouts.
• Name of contact
person, home address, phone number.
• Any special needs we
should know about.
• Number of adults
attending.
Please note: you are not registered for a program
until you receive confirmation from us. Sending an
e-mail or leaving a phone message with your request does not
guarantee a spot.
Before your trip:
• Be sure you have
enough adults.
• Dress for the weather.
We will go outside even if it is raining, so please
be prepared. We will be inside if the weather is unsafe.
• Please be on time. The
program will end as scheduled even if you arrive late.
