About Us Meet Our Staff Board of Directors Advisory Committee LSNC History

Hidden within Ann Arbor is a 50 acre site of fields, prairies, forest and pond, once a home and laboratory to Eugene and Emily Leslie, and now the Leslie Science & Nature Center and Black Pond Woods. The Center is a natural place for all to explore and enjoy. The Center is made possible by the Dr. Eugene and Emily Trust Fund.

Part of our success is due to our partners.  The River Raisin Raptor Center in Manchester chose LSNC as its home for its injured birds of prey starting in 2006.  We are delighted to have this honor and take the responsibility of caring for the birds very seriously.  All of these birds have their homes in outdoor enclosures and can be viewed by the public during daylight hours.

Another important partner is the Great Lakes office of NWF (National Wildlife Federation).  NWF is helping us, as a fledgling non-profit, with fundraising, human resources and staffing, and computers for the next three years.   This tremendous support gives us the time we need to put policies in place and raise sufficient funds to enable us to go out on our own by the time the partnership expires in 2011.  We hope to continue to collaborate on educational programs with NWF even past the formal partnership.

The Leslie House and Nature House do not have open hours, though all are welcome to hike in the park from sunrise to sunset. The Critter House is open to the public most Sundays from 12:00 to 3:00 pm. Call 994-1692 to verify schedule. The public is welcome to see the raptors in their outdoor enclosures at any time during daylight hours.

Mission Statement

The Leslie Science & Nature Center provides youth with educational experiences to foster understanding, appreciation, excitement and respect for the natural environment generating responsible environmental stewardship in recognition of the legacy of Dr. and Mrs. Leslie.
