Raptors
The Leslie Science & Nature Center (LSNC) is happy to announce our partnership with the River
Raisin Raptor Center (RRRC)! With over 10
years of raptor rehabilitation and programming
experience, the RRRC is well established
and ready to grow. With similar
education missions and philosophies LSNC
was happy and willing to merge with RRRC
and adopt their magnificent education program.
All of the raptors have come through the
RRRC rehabilitation facility. Suffering permanent
injuries and unable to survive in
the wild, these non-releasable wild birds
have been trained and now work to help
their wild relatives by educating people
about the issues facing raptors today. Some
of the birds have been presenting programs
for over 10 years and all are well adapted
to large groups of people.
Invite the Leslie Science & Nature Center and their
resident raptors into your classroom,
home, church or other community group.
Allow these hawks, falcons and owls to
captivate your imagination, engage your
senses, and educate and entertain your
minds.
The Leslie Science and Nature Center has become the new home for the birds from the River Raisin Raptor Center! New raptor residents include two Barred Owls, two Great Horned Owls, two Eastern Screech Owls, two Red Tailed Hawks, two American Kestrels, a Turkey Vulture, two Saw-whet owls, Peregrine Falcon and a Bald Eagle. Take a look at our Adopt a Raptor page to see how and who has adopted these birds.
We can bring these amazing birds of prey to you! We are presenting educational outreach programs with our birds. If you would like these majestic birds to visit your classroom or community group, please review the program options.
It’s all about survival! Three engaging raptors, e.g. hawks, owls and falcons, will visit your site to demonstrate and model their amazing survival characteristics and techniques. Hands-on explorations of feathers, skulls and other bird parts provide a stimulating introduction to the Hunters of the Sky. 60 minutes.
Allow our owl visitors to engage, delight and educate your students. Classification, conservation and survival techniques are but a few of the topics explored through live birds, activities, and hands-on explorations. Students will discover what it is like to be a nighttime predator. 60 minutes.
Let the imagination of your young students (pre k – 1st grade) take flight as we spin an owl tale. After the story, students will have the opportunity to enjoy hands-on experiences at our touch table and meet a native Michigan owl. 30-45 minutes.
